But he wanted to have gasoline at European prices. Was he lying to us then, or lying to us before?

Yep, politics as usual. He was fed up with that too, you know.

Obama Complains In 2008 Campaign Ad About Paying $3.50 For Gas…
========================================
good thing Obama doesn’t get out much now…
Obama would really get upset about $5.00 gas…
on a slightly different note… AF1 costs $180,000 per hour to fly…
crudcutter
President Algae and Chu want $9 gas so we’ll all think that getting fucked by companies like Solyndra is just dandy
kellywill
what a lying sack of dog sh-t
NWMN
Just remember gas was $1.78 when he took office.
I read somewhere that if we started drilling today we’d be completely off foreign oil in 12 years and have a supply that would last 250 years!
big-pete
Yeah, but the dollar was worth a lot more in 2008.
NWMN
Try to guess what year this speech was given…….

We can’t let the doctor remain alone in his lonely fight against socialized medicine, or the oil industry fight its own battle against divestiture or crippling controls, repressive taxes; or the farmer who hurts more than most because of government harassment and rule changing in the middle of the game. All of these issues concern each one of us regardless of what our trade or our profession may be. Corporate America must begin to realize that it has allies in the independent businessmen and women and the shopkeepers, the craftsmen, the farmers, and the professions. All these men and women are organized in a great variety of ways. But we talk within our own organizations about our own problems — the drug industry for itself. What we need is a liaison between these organizations to realize how much strength we as a people still have, if we’ll use that strength.
I mentioned oil. Is there anyone that isn’t concerned with the energy problem? Government caused that problem while we all stood by unaware that we were involved. Unnecessary regulations and prices imposed — price limits — back in the ’50′s are the direct cause of today’s crisis. Our crisis isn’t because of a shortage of fuel; it’s a surplus of government. Now we have a new agency — we have a new agency of enormous power — 20,000 employees and a 10 and 1/2 billion dollar budget. That’s more than the gross earnings of the top seven oil companies in the United States. And that’s just to start with. It is nothing more than a first step toward nationalization of the oil industry.
And, you know, when they tell us about the conservation — of course we should save. No one should waste a natural resource. But they act as if we’ve found all the oil and gas there is to be found in this continent, if not the world. Do you know that 57 years ago our government told us we only had enough for 15 years? And nineteen years went by and they told us we only had enough left for 13 more years. Now, we’ve done a lot of driving since then and we’ll do a lot more if government would do one simple thing: get out of the way and let the incentives of the marketplace urge the industry out to find the sources of energy this country needs.

What struck me as so odd is when he gave his speech about the Rs solution was drill drill drill… like Rs are totally out of touch with reality… the audience laughed…. then he says – we have a lot of algae! The audience claps… then they clap when he says… IF we can figure out how to turn it into energy. WTF!!!!!!! I hope some in that crowd put 2 and 2 together after they got some fresh air.

Obama is completely detached from reality .
He’s had years to come up with a plan for current and future oil needs .He did nothing except loose billions of $ on illogical and unusable futuristic fantasies .
The facts are and have been since the 1950′s – we need oil at a reasonable rate, now. The people most hurt by high gas prices are not the 1%,government subsidized families or Obama. It is the 48% of the population the rest of the country feeds off of.
The people Obama claims to represent and stabs in the back with every bill he signs.

If the American people could only see the shit happening here in Florida with B. P. . They are being bled out by obama and his crooks . Don’t get me wrong , there was plenty of damage and they should pay . The sad deal is , people are getting money who were never affected by the oil spill one damn bit . Millions going to people who are defrauding American taxpayers and obama knows it . The Anti Christ is not detached from reality , and he sure as hell has a plan . It’s unfolding right before America’s eyes . YOU LIE obama ! .

If the rise in gas cost will send obama out of office it is a price I will gladly pay…

He was actually complaining because they were too low.
In just about 24 hours, Mitt Romney is headed to a hotel ballroom to give a speech sponsored by Americans for Prosperity, a front group founded and funded by the Koch brothers.
Those are the same Koch brothers whose business model is to make millions by jacking up prices at the pump, and who bankrolled Tea Party extremism, and committed $200 million to try to destroy President Obama before Election Day.
Yeah. It’s not Obama; it’s the fault of those evil Koch brothers.
nevergiveup
This man has worked SO hard he deserves a Chevy Volt motorcade. In fact I think he should be driven to all his fund-raisers in that motorcade with no planes involved. That should keep him busy trying to criss-cross the country in a Volt!
Grass Mud Horsey
Those are the same Koch brothers whose business model is to make millions by jacking up prices at the pump,
Yeah, about that… if memory serves, the oil companies net margin is a bit less than 10%, if everything goes their way.
Cook county, the place from whence Pezzdent Earflaps McAlgae slithered, has taxes of about 90 cents (combined fed/state/county) on a 4.00 gallon of gas- or a bit over 20%. That’s per WGN in Chicago.
So while the vapid dunce in the white house and his slurping acolytes jabber about eeeeeeeville oil companies making big money, they forget that the G is making over twice as much as the oil companies for gas in some places- and all the G does is sit on their ass and dole out favors.
That is all.

Perfect words…from the greatest president of my lifetime (thus far).
The EPA has got to be defanged or defunded, and we a Congress with more cost cutting chutzpah. Unemployment is cheaper than keeping these bureaucracies open. Lady Pelosi indicated that unemployment was great; I say we left some bureaucrats start enjoying ‘stimulating the economy’.

Yep, nothing like the Repubs getting handed a winning ad campaign by the Dems. However……….
@ Sickofislam – I think you are right. I don’t think the Repub nominee will even mention this. I remember Reagan with a graph and shopping cart explaining where everything was before Carter took office and where it was then. Then he simply asked “are you better off than you were four years ago?”
Winning strategies are truthful, factual, but short and to the point and easy for the populace to understand. That’s probably why they won’t use this stuff in the campaign.

Questionman
Fact: Gas prices dropped $9 after Bush lifted a moratorium, and then rose back to original prices a day later. So what the author really means is one time, one president did something that dropped gas prices for a few days, and Obama should do that now. What a joke.
Fact: Nothing I’ve ever seen has said there was 1.4T barrels of oil in the US alone. I’ve read between 2-3T worldwide from several sources. I’m not surprised that a non-profit company run by a former Enron guy, who’s written a ton of books about oil, and takes money from oil companies to keep the non-profit afloat, would pull a number like that out of thin air. I can’t find anything, anywhere that backs up that 1.4T number. If anyone can, please do.
There’s just nothing there showing the 12% number the author claims. In fact the data shows a 16% increase just from 2008-2009 alone. Wind and solar have both more than doubled from 2008-2012. That page doesn’t have 2011 data just up to 2010, you have to find it elsewhere on the site.
I find it interesting that Obama gets no credit for oil production being up because”it is the result of steps taken prior to his coming in to office’ yet he gets all the credit for an economic situation that George and Dick spent 8 years of hard work at deregulation creating. It’s politics and the GOP candidates are engaged in bait and switch as well. As for the average price of gas when he took office it had climbed to $2.85 the year before he was elected and dropped back in the last two quarters before the election. Keep in mind that Bush/Chaney were handed a huge budget surplus and managed to put this country into the worst economic situation since the great depression in just 8 years.
billnc1, That goes a long way to explaining the increase in government dependancy and, by the way under the Obama administration government jobs have actually decreased by about 2.8 million as they have downsized the bureaucracy. You need to actually research your facts before you go into a rant taken from Fox news.
2008: Rampant oil speculation spikes prices to unprecedented levels. As academics from the Peterson Institute, the James Baker Institute at Rice University, and others conclude, non-commercial speculators begin to dominate the market, forcing up prices. Although the evidence was abundant that speculators caused the massive price spikes during the summer of 2008, regulators were toothless to act.
A bipartisan majority in the House overwhelmingly passed legislation to award powers to the CFTC to oversee rampant oil speculation, but Republican in the Senate — acting with help from Koch lobbyists — killed the bill, called the Energy Markets Emergency Act.
2011: As oil speculation again hits record highs, leading to record high oil prices, Koch’s allies in Congress fight to undermine new reforms and allow unchecked speculation to spiral out of control. Oil speculation is currently at a record level, which experts, and even many Republicans now agree, is causing pain at the pump.
After a furious lobbying campaign, the CFTC postpones Dodd-Frank mandated regulations on excessive oil speculation, known as position limits. As the CFTC grapples with how to implement these new rules, newly elected Republicans, many with Koch-backing, propose steep cuts to the CFTC to undercut any rules on oil speculation.
Questionman
I am always so angered when things like this are so taken out of context. Obama is in no way saying that the current oil crisis can be eradicated simply by tapping in ‘ALGAE POWER’.
This is part of a bigger picture idea, that we can obtain usable fuel from alternative sources other than crude oil if we invest in technological development now. People are so stubborn and selfish that they are always concerned with short term finances, boohooing about the fact that they have to pay $10-20 more dollars per fill-up now. If we actually just deal with a little hardship now and invest in technologies that will help us obtain cheaper energy in the future, these perpetual crises will cease happening.
The reason these oil price crises keep happening is because Americans feel that they have a right to pay absurdly cheap prices for gasoline (historically almost always cheaper than milk; imagine that) to power their disgustingly inefficient gas guzzlers that are rarely used for anything other than commuting. Politicians have to pander to individuals crying about gas prices because they don’t want to take the time to try and educate their electorate about long term investment into energy alternatives. It isn’t the politicians fault that gas prices are increasing. It’s ours. We need to stop the cycle by realizing that it is time to get independent of crude oil.
If we invested simply 0.001% of the GDP (currently 14.59 trillion) that would give us 146 million dollars to develop innovations not ONLY from algae but from all sorts of other biological fuel sources to obtain our independence from crude sources. I can tell you as a molecular biologist that 146 million dollars would be 144 million dollars more than a single lab would need to to accumulate the resources to develop microorganisms that will produce usable carbon sources that can be put into vehicles. Yes. Crude oil independence. And it would take less than 10 years.
My rant about people who cry about gas prices below:
If you are THAT affected by gas prices increasing, it likely means that you either drive too much or your car is extremely inefficient. Solutions:
1. Don’t commute in fuel inefficient vehicles. Carpool whenever possible. Take public transportation to work. Bike. Walk.
2. Move closer to your job. Why do you need to live an hour away from work? I’ve never heard a good excuse.
Calm down.
The GOP will get their turn to destroy the country soon enough.I know the anticipation is killing you guys.
…did obama drag us into two unnecessary, unwinnable, mideast stalemates (since neither Iraq nor Afghanistan did anything to us) for no other reason than to enrich his war-profiteer cronies? – nope, that was bushie!..did the economy collapse at the end of obama’s regime and did he formulate a bailout plan to replace the money his cronies stole? nope, bushie again!..so..how exactly did obama “destroy the country??”
Even among those who would never consider themselves to be racially biased, there is inherent discord with seeing an African American family inhabit the white house (in a position other than the help). If you ask many of his critics to specifically explain their “hatred” for the president, you will not get a true or accurate response. In the case of the GOP, they early on decided they wanted Obama out of office with all due speed. Any criticism they have of him after that point (before even his first 100 days in office) can’t be trusted.
Of course he’s racist. He’s a Republican. They don’t call it the Bigot Party for nothing!
It’s about time I stated the Obvious. YOU are the racist, scumbag liar that can’t stand having a black man as President. You R-Tarded proves that fact!
