Poll: Despite Obama Boasting About Saving Detroit, Americans Still Oppose Auto Bailout 55% To 36%…

Via National Journal:

A majority of Americans think the federal government should not have helped out U.S. automakers that were in financial trouble, but rather should have allowed them to go it alone, according to a new United Technologies/National Journal Congressional Connection Poll.

Thirty-six percent of Americans think the government should have provided help, but 55 percent think “these companies should have been allowed to succeed or fail on their own,” the poll shows. The results echo other surveys, including a May 2010 poll conducted by CBS News in which a third of respondents thought the government should have helped, while 61 percent thought they should not have.

Yeah! He saved Detroit all right. That is why a city councilman in Detroit is proposing that gas stations be forced to hire security guards. Bankrupt the owners after the AFL-CIO and/or SEIU demand and succeed in getting the guards in their unions.

In the meanwhile, the unionized cops will continue to not arrest the perps. The unionized teachers will continue not to educate the children, leading them down a life of crime. Poliiticians will continue to live or die by union support (or lack of it).

Beginning to see a trend? It is so obvious…really…it’s all Bush’s fault!

Ford demands you people stop talking about Detroit. Obama wasn’t asked for, wasn’t involved in, wasn’t invited in Ford business. Leave Ford out of his crap.

Yes, Obama did an infomercial today pushing his flaming electric Pinto onto America, saying that he’d buy a a Government Motors VOLT in 5 years when he is no longer president. Yes, many of us cannot remember when a prior president did promotion pieces for products. Seinfield made fune of product placement but this President has made it a staple of his state-owned capital programme.

Why doesn’t W.Z. ever cover Obama’s lack of article II section 1 clause 5 eligibility since he was not born of 2 US citizen parents on US soil? That of course makes him an unconstitutional usurper.

One would think this very important.

Has anyone noticed that when Barry speaks at one of these factories, he has it in the FACTORY where production is STOPPED for his speech? Where it could have been done elsewhere?

The reason I’m bringing this up is that I used to be a mechanic at Gibson Greeting Cards. There is alot of production lost during a CEO speech. And alot of waste going out when starting the machines back up.

Upon saying that, I know cards are cheap compared to cars, but think of what happens in that factory when they go back to production!.. Good grief, can’t even imagine..

    Our “Scary” President

Less than four months into the presidency of Barack Hussein Obama, Lou Pritchett, a former vice president of Procter and Gamble, posted an open letter to Obama on his blog which began, “Dear President Obama: You are the thirteenth President under whom I have lived and unlike any of the others, you truly scare me.”

The original missive had been sent by the legendary corporate legend, noted public speaker, author, and teacher to the New York Times which chose not to print it although less distinguished publications did. It was subsequently accorded the seal of accuracy by leftist-leaning Snopes.com and only now has gone viral.

In retrospect, it’s understandable why the Times, a principal MSM Obama lackey, wanted no part of Pritchett’s letter but Obamians predictably came out in force to condemn Pritchett for his stupidity, ignorance, inaccuracies, and venom for daring to express his viewpoints on their Anointed One.

The letter reflects the author’s early and insightful realization that America was in serious trouble with our new leader and commander-in-chief.

Just months into Obama’s tenure, Pritchett noted Obama was unfit for office by virtue of his murky background, lack of experience and qualifications, radical past associations, arrogant sense of omnipotence and omniscience, his demonization of all opponents, and his extreme spending and health care plans which have since come to fruition.

In what is easily the scariest feature of Pritchett’s alarm was citing Obama’s mainstream media for its failure to vet candidate Obama as it had always done with previous presidential hopefuls and, since his election, has given him a free ride, never questioning his motives, never investigating his claims, never doubting his sincerity.

The remainder of Lou Pritchett’s letter follows: (Read more at http://www.genelalor.com/blog1/?p=15150.)

Hopefully, the public will realize the we need a manager, not a political insider or religious zealot or lawyer. We have a choice, get down to business or continue to fracture.

I’ve made my choice… I take the manager with successful leadership experience…

  26. rhhardin says:

Econ 101 is that it cost the economy more to bail out the auto companies than it saved in auto companies. That’s why they were bankrupt. If it were the other way, they’d have been solvent.

As to saving jobs, it saves more jobs to let them reorganize under normal rules of bankruptcy. Suppliers are going to supply for the cars people buy no matter who makes the cars. Let it be somebody who knows what they’re doing.

Most fatally, Obama at a single blow showed there’s no rule of law in America, take your investments elsewhere. Priority in bankruptcy is fundamental, or was. Now everybody has to pay for debt as it it’s all junior unsecured debt, no matter what. That cuts off business activity, period.

I don’t know if the US will ever recover from that single mistake.

Obama doesn’t know what he’s doing, in this or anything.

Seems it doesn’t matter any more what we the people think, it’s all about how the government is going to spin it.

  28. credit man says:
    February 29, 2012 at 10:08 am

One of the main tennents is that liberals don’t understand the bankruptcy law. It simply allows lenders and those that are owed money for goods or services to write down those amounts and keep themselves from having to pay taxes on said amounts.

Bankruptcy would have been good for the auto industry. By now we would have seen the realignment of the automakers and suppliers and they would be healthy. The mfgs of GM and Chrysler/Fiat would not owe americans any money. There would not be massive unemployment like there is now because the autoworkers would be back at work instead of wondering if Washington DC will be commanding them to build a new loser of a vehicle. To get an idea of this, look at what was available to the british motoring public during the 60′s and 70′s when unions held sway over their government. There are some of the worst vehicles ever made.

Now we have the “flaming electrified Pinto” that is sponsored to the tune of $10,000 american dollars for everyone sold. Man, that’s a real winner.

High gasoline prices will make research into such alternatives more urgent, [Energy Secretary] Chu said.

“But is the overall goal to get our price” of gasoline down, asked Nunnelee.

“No, the overall goal is to decrease our dependency on oil, to build and strengthen our economy,” Chu replied. “We think that if you consider all these energy policies, including energy efficiency, we think that we can go a long way to becoming less dependent on oil and [diversifying] our supply and we’ll help the American economy and the American consumers.”
