The old blue collar demographic of Michigan (especially Detroit) is very much like that here around Pittsburgh.
This is a good and smart move on Santorum’s part to reach out to these people.
For a few obsolete reasons, they’ll always be Dems, but can sometimes be persuaded to vote Republican if they feel that a candidate more closely resembles them than their incumbent Dem.
If they’re paying the least bit of attention, Obama scares the Depends off them.
Santorum is from an area like this, and knows these facts about voters that some in other parts of the country may not be as familiar with.
I still don’t like him, nor do I trust him. His Senate voting record speaks for him as far as I am concerned on both his so-called “conservative” social stances as well as economic. He can claim some of those votes were mistakes like he did in this last debate all he wants now that he’s running for President, but in my opinion that only makes his feet stand in jello where his principles are concerned. He did this same dog and pony show while running for Senate too, then got there and “compromised” almost everything he said he wouldn’t.
I can’t for the life of me understand the Gingrich Santorum split. Both candidates have roughly the same views on every major issue. Both have roughly equal baggage where they made unwise political compromises while in office, but are still not as bad as Romney. And if one dropped out of the race, the other would be able to easily claim the nomination. Instead, their die hard supporters continue to cling on, giving Romney a cake walk to the nomination.
Conservative Democrat like these folks?

If the primary is an “open primary”, why shouldn’t he try to get the votes?
It is perfectly acceptable for Rick to attract “Reagan” democrats. They are fair game in my opinion, go for it!!!

He’s STILL better than Mittens.
That should tell you something.

All’s fair in love and war…and politics.
