Pelosi Feigns Outrage Over Rush Limbaugh’s “Vicious Attacks” On Her Political Prop…

(The Hill) — House Democrats went after Rush Limbaugh Wednesday for his attacks on a university student who recently testified before Congress on women’s reproductive health.
Limbaugh on Wednesday called Georgetown Law Center student Sandra Fluke a “slut” and a “prostitute” for her support of the Obama administration’s new birth-control mandate.
Behind House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.), the Democrats said Limbaugh’s remarks were uncivilized and misogynistic. They’re asking Republican leaders to denounce the popular conservative radio host.
Limbaugh’s attacks, the Democrats said, “are outside the circle of civilized discussion and … unmask the strong disrespect for women held by some in this country.”
“We call upon the Republican leaders in the House to condemn these vicious attacks on Ms. Fluke, which are in response to her testimony to the Congress,” they added.
Fluke has become something of an unwitting celebrity on Capitol Hill this month after Republicans on the Oversight and Government Reform Committee denied the Democrats’ request to have her testify on Obama’s new birth control mandate. Chairman Darrell Issa (R-Calif.) argued that the policy concerns religious freedom, not reproductive health.
Democrats pounced, hoping to portray the Republicans as out-of-touch with women’s healthcare needs. To highlight the saga, Democratic leaders had Fluke discuss the issue last week before the House Democratic Steering and Policy Committee.
That testimony led Limbaugh to claim Wednesday that Fluke “wants to be paid to have sex.”
“What does it say about the college co-ed Susan [sic] Fluke who goes before a congressional committee and essentially says that she must be paid to have sex? What does that make her?” Limbaugh asked. “It makes her a slut, right? It makes her a prostitute.
“She wants to be paid to have sex,” he added. “She’s having so much sex she can’t afford the contraception. She wants you and me and the taxpayers to pay her to have sex.”

The current argle bargle over free contraceptives under Obamacare raises some interesting Constitutional issues.
I am not referring to the obvious infringements on the First Amendment freedoms. Rather, I am wondering how the Federal government is authorized to demand or provide free contraceptives in the first place.
Some critics have scoffed at the idea that this falls under the general welfare clause, but, if you think about it, free contraceptives are just about as close to ‘providing for the general welfare’ as you can get.
Other freebies from the Feds only help the person who gets the cash. Food Stamps, HUD, WIC, etc, provide direct benefits with little or no benefit to the general welfare.
But free contraceptives are different. They do directly benefit the general welfare.
Now millions of women are free to have no-strings-attached sex with little downside or the need for a long term commitment.
This not only benefits those women, but every un-attached male in the land.

Most health insurance plans don’t even cover eyeglasses. I’ve been paying for special expensive glasses for 40 years, because my vision can’t be corrected by surgery, Lasik, or contacts.
