This should be done more often. Anytime a patrol comes under fire, that unit should retire to a safe position, Identify the target, call in artillery or bomber support and flaten the entire area. Civilian casualties equals unfortunate collateral damage. The Taliban cannot exist without the support of the civilian population. After a while, the civilians will fear us more than they do the Taliban. Therefore, no more Taliban. Then we can work on proving to them that being our friend is much better than being our enemy.
