ThinkProgress Blames Rush Limbaugh For GM’s Decision To Halt Chevy Volt Production…

Do they really believe one conservative radio host is this powerful? The answer to that question is apparently, yes.

Via ThinkProgress:

Relentless attacks on the Chevy Volt from Rush Limbaugh and Republican politicians have taken their toll, as General Motors has announced a five-week suspension in production of the range-extended electric car. Conservative enemies of clean energy and the Obama administration seized on isolated reports Volts with battery fires, calling the cars “Obama-mandated death traps.” Limbaugh even said GM was a “corporation that’s trying to kill its customers.”

These conspiracy-tinged partisan attacks have now cost American jobs, with 1300 workers temporarily laid off in the face of lower than expected demand for the innovative cars, even as gas prices rise. In January, GM CEO Dan Akerson bemoaned the effect of the barrage of ideological criticism on the popularity of the 37–93 mpg car:

We did not design the Volt to become a political punching bag and that’s what it’s become.

Oh, and about those attacks? After an investigation, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration determined that the Volt is just as safe as any gasoline-powered vehicle on the road.

I had a Chevy Malibu rental a few weeks back. When I went to adjust the airflow vents in the center of the dash the adjustment tab came off in my hand. The rental was less than a year old. Very poor quality. I bet the Volt is no better, even if it does cost a lot more.

They are the ones that made it a political punching bag the second the gave Federally funded rebates just for buying one.
When the Stimulus cash was / is being used to build charging stations that no one will use, it became political.
When Obama does campaign event at the Volt factory (oh that’s right, he wasn’t really campaigning) it became a politcal issue.

And it if the POS was worth buying, people would be lining up to buy them.
    It’s called “Capitalism”.

Just found out about the Chevy Volt:

It’s only a 4 passenger car… 2 very cramped buckets seats in back.

Because theres no “engine braking” associated with gasoline motors, they require “rolling-resistant” tires to slow you down. Of course you also need to spend more energy to overcame that rolling resistance.

They get lousy gas mileage on Premium fuel.

They come with painted wheels. Metallic ones will run you $600.00.

A sound system with all the newest GPS, etc is an additional $2,000.

A Clearcoat finish paint job is an extra $1,000.

The regular charger will recharge your dead batteries in 10 hours.
The 240volt charger will do in in 4 hours, at a cost of $500 for the unit and $1,500 for the installation.
It needs a SEPARATE 240 volt breaker and hardwire line to the unit.

I ‘ll bet Rush is astounded that he has so much ” power ”
The dear leader and bankroll a product with public money that the company does not want to build for a public that will not buy, BECAUSE IT IS INFERROR.
But Rush is to blame, the only thing the left has a monopoly on escuses to blame someone else for their incopetence and piss poor judgment.
Any one else would be in jail for such malfeasance.
The dear leader has not yet figured it out that the electric the Volt runs on is produced by coal fired boilers; the companies he has promised to bankrupt and provides a majority of the electricty the country uses.

Like a 25 mile range would even get you to work and back out here in West Texas. We have to use good old fashioned gasoline powered internal combustion engines to go anywhere.

They should have renamed the Volt the Torch.

If Rush deserves any blame whatsoever, its because he didn’t want to keep promoting GM products on his radio show.

    Good for him.

Oh sure, this colossal flop of a death trap is the fault of Rush Limbaugh. As if the targeted market, upscale 1%er commies, would ever soil their tender ears by listening to El Rushbo, but they just know its all his doing.

Does anyone remember cash for clunkers? Obama and the liberals should really stay out of the auto industry, actually all of the free-market. They don’t know what they are doing. The funny thing is people still support this guy. Americans are really stupid people.
    1) Cash for clunkers – Cost us, the taxpayer, billions. Result destroyed the used car industry.
    2) GM takeover – Cost us,the taxpayer billions. Result create a vehicle that is a pos that NOONE in their right mind would want and then blame Limbaugh for the 1,300 people lay-off.
What about blaming Obama for the 20,000 plus job destroyer with the axe on the keystone oil pipeline. Oh, and by the way, even he’s destroying our currency and making it worthless, drilling for more oil would bring the price down. Can you believe Diesel is at 4 bucks again and its construction season. Thanks Obama for your wonderful energy policies. We will remember you in november you jerk-off…..

President Obama tells UAW workers that he will be buying a Chevy Volt when he leaves office in five years and just days later GM suspends production due to slow sales.

At the same time this same “Green” President is otherwise willing to keep Air Force One in the air to watch a basketball game between the NY Knicks and Miami Heat.

Now that seems like a waste of gas to me but then again I am not the King!

How many Volts would have been sold without a rebate offered?
How many Volts would have been purchased if cities weren’t buying them for their employees?
GM sold out to the government and I’ll never buy another GM. I’ll ride a horse before I will allow the government mandate what car I have to purchase.

Better to design a car to run on bullshit and corporate lies, what does the volt cost to charge, how long is the battery goog for and what does it cost to replace?

I have never seen one towing a small boat.

The biggest coordinated media firestorm in history against an auto mfg (runaway Toyotas) was not enough to dent Camry sales, but we’re to believe Rush Limbaugh single handedly took down the Volt. They would love you to believe that. Everytime they say it, throw that Toyota debacle in their face and have them explain it. Toyota was demonized by the press and th Govt. The Volt has been coddled by the press and the Govt. WTF!?
