The Civil Rights Act of 1964 was in part a response to a recent Supreme Court decision that decided that state-sanctioned racial discrimination represented a ‘Bill of Attainder’, and was specifically prohibited by Article 1, Section 9, Clause 3, of the US Constitution, which stated; “No Bill of Attainder or ex post facto Law shall be passed.”

My father was in the UAW in the 1930s and the teamsters in New Jersey in the 1960s (when Tony Pro was president) and he had no end of tales of union violence. He tried to keep a low profile and avoid involvement in the beatings and general union bullshit. He heard plans to rough up guys, saw non union drivers dragged form trucks, etc. Unions suck. Just my opinion.
