Yes, the government should be able to restrict your purchases if you are on food stamps just as they should be able to require drug testing and just as how you are required to be actively searching for a job. I see no problem with putting restrictions like that on taxpayer funded program.

And if all Mobozo was doing was advocating “health and nutrition,” I wouldn’t have a problem No, she’s lecturing and badgering, demanding that private companies meet HER standards, while she and Obozo are stuffing their faces with Waygu beef, other rich fatty foods, guzzling alcohol, having expensive foods that most of us here can only see pics of, but cannot afford. And all the promotion of “healthy” carbs/grains– hey, those of us who must control blood glucose CANNOT eat a vegetarian diet and have a healthy life.

Can they test you for tobacco use too? And then force you into some kind of tobacco cessation plan? Can you be arrrested and jailed if you fail a test?

If you are as above and pregnant, can the government also decide if you are healthy enough to bear a healthy child which won’t be a burden on the system?
If you fail a few tests, can they force you to abort the child until you pass their health tests?

If you are using food stamps, yes, they should be able to restrict your purchases. In fact, they already do (ever work at a convenience store/grocery?). You can’t buy already prepared food with food stamps. WIC limits items you can purchase. How’s limiting the foods you can get with food stamps to fresh produce or healthy foods any different?

I’m all for tobacco testing as well if you are receiving government subsidies/healthcare. No, they can’t force you into a program, but they can cut off your bene’s until you pass the test. Again, there are currently lots of regs that will prevent you from getting government help. I think you should be sued if you scam the system, in other words, stealing from the government.

Don’t be silly. It’s republicans who want to control a woman’s womb. But yes, test positive for drugs, you don’t get WIC. Why do you want to make is so easy for welfare moms to exist? Maybe throwing some personal responsibility into the whole birthing thing will cut down on the number of unwanted pregnancies and abortion.

I quit watching “Biggest Loser” when I heard they used the East Room as a gym. The WH has a gym . . . if she wanted to do another publicity stunt, she could have at least used the gym . . . NOT THE EAST ROOM! Some of the greatest documents that our country has ever signed were signed in the East Room. Some of the greatest honors to ever be presented to anyone was done in that room.

For goodness sake . . . why not use the residence quarters? They probably are going to need to be re-done in January anyway. A new President will be moving in, and they always re-do the residence.

I know. I don’t think we disagree on that. I just want more oversight and control over what and on who that money is spent on. I don’t donate to charities I am not actively involved in and trust.

True, I guess it is how you define progressive. I tend to think of it as embracing change and working to make that change (which I believe is inevitable in every aspect of society) productive. What I deem productive, however, is not what a large majority of “progressive movement” seem to believe (e.g. government control, market approaches, feminism, Islam), but I do tend to agree on some close to home things (environment, drug laws (what can I say, I’m a hippie that likes taking walks in the woods)).

Right or wrong (but based on experience), I tend to see the conservative movement as change resistant, which I think is harmful. Go pick up any issue of Harvard Business Review or business text and you’ll find numerous writings on accepting and embracing change.

I’m not so sure about that. What I see is that Conservatives would prefer a free market to dictate change instead of regulations and mandates. Admittedly it takes longer, and there may be fits and starts as new technology is developed, but in the long run what works is accepted and fits the need better. Things are not as time critical, i.e., “We Can’t Wait”, as we’re led to believe. There *is* time to allow free enterprise to find the answers to today’s issues, and at an affordable cost determined by fair competition.

In your opinion, Conservatives resist change. I would classify myself as mostly conservative and there are numerous things I would like to see changed. Most involve returning power back to the states and the people by reducing the federal governments overreaching and Constitution violating “assumed” powers.

Education….I pay 1000′s in property taxes and nearly all goes to education in my county. I pay and I have a say and can attend meetings and voice concerns. It is not my business to dictate to other areas, where I have zero knowledge, of how they should run their schools. Billions are spent by the feds on what they call education. Bull! They have simply taken my property in the form of taxes and stolen most and pissed away the rest. Change – reduce the DOE’s budget by 90%. Tuff if people lose jobs that they never should have had in the first place.

UN – a failed experiment. Can it, defund it, implode the building.

EPA – started as a decent enveavour but has morphed into an un-Constitutional monster. They can dictate law WITHOUT congressional approval. Cut their budget by 95%.

Refineries – it’s been about 35 years since a new one was constructed. Build more. The hell with “green” energy as it is a farce and costs more than the return.

Corn ethanol – stop it immediately!!! It costs over 80% in petro gallons to produce same gallons in ethanol. Stupid concept. Let’s eat the corn instead.
