Mandate? Really? When did Ms. Obama write, sign or enact any legislation? What bill number was that again?
Yes, the government should be able to restrict your purchases if you are on food stamps just as they should be able to require drug testing and just as how you are required to be actively searching for a job. I see no problem with putting restrictions like that on taxpayer funded program.

And if all Mobozo was doing was advocating “health and nutrition,” I wouldn’t have a problem No, she’s lecturing and badgering, demanding that private companies meet HER standards, while she and Obozo are stuffing their faces with Waygu beef, other rich fatty foods, guzzling alcohol, having expensive foods that most of us here can only see pics of, but cannot afford. And all the promotion of “healthy” carbs/grains– hey, those of us who must control blood glucose CANNOT eat a vegetarian diet and have a healthy life.
Its is definitely the double-standard that bothers most of us here– rich foods for Mobozo, lots of wine & alcohol for Mobozo, but not for us little people.
And no, I don’t want people sweating in the East room, which is a historic room with lots of historic stuff that should not be exposed to such humidity & bodily fluids. Go out back in the yard for that.
Xavier
Ru, I see the White House as almost sacred – not somewhere for blowjobs and exercise classes. I don’t think publicity stunts like this are appropriate in this setting. There are other areas better suited, although, as you say, it was a publicity stunt. I’ll concede your point, but still think it was poor judgement and disrespectful.
Rufus
@ Ru…
“Yes, the government should be able to restrict your purchases”… really?
REALLY?
So if an obese person has Government issued health insurance (Obamacare) and they are also dependent on the government for food and other assistance, you believe that the DHS (or some agency) should be able to force you to eat healthier?
Can they test you for tobacco use too? And then force you into some kind of tobacco cessation plan? Can you be arrrested and jailed if you fail a test?
If you are as above and pregnant, can the government also decide if you are healthy enough to bear a healthy child which won’t be a burden on the system?
If you fail a few tests, can they force you to abort the child until you pass their health tests?

If you are using food stamps, yes, they should be able to restrict your purchases. In fact, they already do (ever work at a convenience store/grocery?). You can’t buy already prepared food with food stamps. WIC limits items you can purchase. How’s limiting the foods you can get with food stamps to fresh produce or healthy foods any different?
———— Can they test you for tobacco use too? And then force you into some kind of tobacco cessation plan? Can you be arrrested and jailed if you fail a test?

I’m all for tobacco testing as well if you are receiving government subsidies/healthcare. No, they can’t force you into a program, but they can cut off your bene’s until you pass the test. Again, there are currently lots of regs that will prevent you from getting government help. I think you should be sued if you scam the system, in other words, stealing from the government.

Don’t be silly. It’s republicans who want to control a woman’s womb. But yes, test positive for drugs, you don’t get WIC. Why do you want to make is so easy for welfare moms to exist? Maybe throwing some personal responsibility into the whole birthing thing will cut down on the number of unwanted pregnancies and abortion.

Way to duck the issue. Anyhow, are you are the arbiter of fashion now? It’s an exercise class, what do you expect her to wear? I would guess exercise clothes. At least she isn’t wearing “Pink” butt-sweats and a titty shirt like the girls you see at Planet Fitness.
dahozho
Nancy Reagan also wasn’t blackmailing private companies, or encouraging children to be disrespectful towards their parents/grandparents, etc. She also didn’t spend millions of dollars with that campaign. She also didn’t spend millions on vacations for herself, and although she was a little too fond of astrologers, at least she wasn’t including them in her travel entourage.
I always thought “just say no” was simplistic and, was for the most part a joke for the intended audience. And Tipper Gore’s music labeling crusade was just an excuse for the gov’t. to do parents’ jobs for them– stupidly expensive. And it didn’t work either.

I see you’re still trying to spread that crap about Repubs and your womb.
But you want the government to pay for your birth control and vagina maintenance.
If the gov’t can control your diet and other habits, and it’s also paying for your pregnancy and birth costs, and the costs for the new child, why can’t they also decide if you are healthy enough for the pregnancy to proceed.
Under your sysytem, we will have death panels for late life care, why can’t we also have pregnancy review panels to decide if the government can afford to let the pregnancy go on?
If a drug addicted crack whore comes into the ObamaClinic, pregnant, why can’t they force her to abort?
Rufus

“It’s an exercise class, what do you expect her to wear?”
Exactly, it’s an exercise class, and belongs in the gym, NOT in the Lincoln Bedroom, or whatever historic room she was defiling with her antics.
There’s a gym in the WH. Why wasn’t this class held there?
She did it to show her contempt for the WH and everyone who has respect for the place.

No, I want the government to pay for birth control and vagina maintenance of women who have fallen temporarily on hard times and cannot pay for it herself at the moment. Make it a safety net as intended.
If the gov’t can control your diet and other habits, and it’s also paying for your pregnancy and birth costs, and the costs for the new child, why can’t they also decide if you are healthy enough for the pregnancy to proceed.
The government can only control your diet and other habits if you are in circumstances where you can’t afford services yourself and only then by incentivising the program. The same thing happens with taxes, environmental regulations, highway funds, etc.
Under your sysytem, we will have death panels for late life care, why can’t we also have pregnancy review panels to decide if the government can afford to let the pregnancy go on?
No, Sarah, there are no such things as death panels. Nice try though. Guess what, your private insurance company, makes decisions on what it will and won’t cover as well, including late life care.
If a drug addicted crack whore comes into the ObamaClinic, pregnant, why can’t they force her to abort?
No, again, it is “conservatives” who wish to control people’s actions. This is nothing more than placing some requirements on getting government assistance to assure that they are not abusing the system. How do you not understand this yet?

“Make it a safety net as intended.”
There is a safety net (Medicaid, Welfare, the good parts of Planned Parenthood), but there’s a difference between your yearly vagina maintenance visits and forcing taxpayers to pay for your birth control and abortions.
I asked, “Why can’t they also decide if you are healthy enough for the pregnancy to proceed.”… you evaded the question.
Yes, there are death panels… this has been discussed over and again. Financial vialbility review boards, or whatever you call them. There will be a non medical, governmental accounting commission that decides if your care is cost effective.
You evaded the question of whether they will be able to decide if you are healthy enough to bear a child without undo costs to the government.
Private insurance companies use medical professionals to decide on approved care. Although I concede it’s not much different.
“No, again, it is “conservatives” who wish to control people’s actions.”

I quit watching “Biggest Loser” when I heard they used the East Room as a gym. The WH has a gym . . . if she wanted to do another publicity stunt, she could have at least used the gym . . . NOT THE EAST ROOM! Some of the greatest documents that our country has ever signed were signed in the East Room. Some of the greatest honors to ever be presented to anyone was done in that room.
For goodness sake . . . why not use the residence quarters? They probably are going to need to be re-done in January anyway. A new President will be moving in, and they always re-do the residence.

I know. I don’t think we disagree on that. I just want more oversight and control over what and on who that money is spent on. I don’t donate to charities I am not actively involved in and trust.
Why can’t they also decide if you are healthy enough for the pregnancy to proceed.
Because that is directly controlling somebody’s actions and physically making them do something, which I am opposed to. People should be free to do what they want, but if they are going to get my money, they have to play by my rules.
There will be a non medical, governmental accounting commission that decides if your care is cost effective.
Dude, of course there will be doctors on any review panel. That’s just common sense.
You evaded the question of whether they will be able to decide if you are healthy enough to bear a child without undo costs to the government.
If you are in the position where you must rely on government funding to have a child, then yes, you should have to meet standards before receiving money. Again, that is no physically controlling anybody, it is incentivising people.
Again, wow… you’ve had too much KoolAid.
Yeah, that was hyperbole. We both know that the reps and dems alike are controlling a-holes.

However, Pew’s data suggests that the Democrats’ low average rating likely is a consequence of its bipolar political coalition, which combines well-credentialed post-graduate progressives who score well in quizzes with a much larger number of poorly educated supporters, who score badly.

Separate Reality
@Ru
Progressive??? really??? committed to changing and reforming every aspect of the state, society and economy???
You are smart, you know things.
Rupaula
@Seperate Reality,
True, I guess it is how you define progressive. I tend to think of it as embracing change and working to make that change (which I believe is inevitable in every aspect of society) productive. What I deem productive, however, is not what a large majority of “progressive movement” seem to believe (e.g. government control, market approaches, feminism, Islam), but I do tend to agree on some close to home things (environment, drug laws (what can I say, I’m a hippie that likes taking walks in the woods)).
Right or wrong (but based on experience), I tend to see the conservative movement as change resistant, which I think is harmful. Go pick up any issue of Harvard Business Review or business text and you’ll find numerous writings on accepting and embracing change.
Dapandico
@Rup – Am still looking at the Harvard Law Review for any articles from the TOTUS.
Xavier
@Ru
I’m not so sure about that. What I see is that Conservatives would prefer a free market to dictate change instead of regulations and mandates. Admittedly it takes longer, and there may be fits and starts as new technology is developed, but in the long run what works is accepted and fits the need better. Things are not as time critical, i.e., “We Can’t Wait”, as we’re led to believe. There *is* time to allow free enterprise to find the answers to today’s issues, and at an affordable cost determined by fair competition.
Rupaula
@Xavier,
I can see that and on a lot of issues I agree, but I am a firm believer that some things cannot be privatized and left strictly to markets. Under the parted hair and tie, I’m a crunchy hippie who likes to hunt and hike so my main issue of concern is the environment. While I don’t buy into much of the alarmism, my trees and critters don’t have anybody working in the markets for them. Ask the buffalo and musk ox how they fared with waiting out the market approach. Luckily, we were able to bring those back. I grew up in towns were the creeks were a dead red from mine run-off. That would never get cleaned up if the government wasn’t stepping in and adding protections.

In your opinion, Conservatives resist change. I would classify myself as mostly conservative and there are numerous things I would like to see changed. Most involve returning power back to the states and the people by reducing the federal governments overreaching and Constitution violating “assumed” powers.
A few…
Education….I pay 1000′s in property taxes and nearly all goes to education in my county. I pay and I have a say and can attend meetings and voice concerns. It is not my business to dictate to other areas, where I have zero knowledge, of how they should run their schools. Billions are spent by the feds on what they call education. Bull! They have simply taken my property in the form of taxes and stolen most and pissed away the rest. Change – reduce the DOE’s budget by 90%. Tuff if people lose jobs that they never should have had in the first place.
UN – a failed experiment. Can it, defund it, implode the building.
EPA – started as a decent enveavour but has morphed into an un-Constitutional monster. They can dictate law WITHOUT congressional approval. Cut their budget by 95%.
Refineries – it’s been about 35 years since a new one was constructed. Build more. The hell with “green” energy as it is a farce and costs more than the return.
Corn ethanol – stop it immediately!!! It costs over 80% in petro gallons to produce same gallons in ethanol. Stupid concept. Let’s eat the corn instead.
