The small business I started from scratch 37 years ago has survived and grown in spite of, not because of, the government. No one except my wife helped me start it up and only a small but courageous community bank provided me the funding to build a manufacturing plant and construct a 1 mile access road. Until 2008, I and my now grown sons grew the business both nationally and internationally, enabling us to employ 310 works, pay them well, and provide an excellent benefit package including company-paid health insurance. Since 2009, the additional Federal regulations imposed on my industry, which has historically been heavily regulated, have become extremely burdensome and incredibly expensive. Every one of the 7 agencies we are required to deal with have become abusive in their application of regulations because, in most cases, those assigned to “police” us are not sufficiently knowledgeable about the laws they are charged with enforcing. And they clearly have only one mission–to pre-judge us non-compliant and impose outrageous fines on our company. We have been successful, in every single instance, of winning every battle they have waged against us. But it has required us to spend over $5 million over the past 3 years in legal fees. And we now have to employ 8 full-time people (versus just 1 five years ago) to comply with all the Federal laws and their compliance and reporting requirements.

There is absolutely no way our business will survive in a second Obama term. I am now 69 years old and will fully retire from my company. My sons are preparing a contingency strategic plan, 2 years in the making, to save the company by moving all its operations and as many of our employees who are willing to continue with them, to Costa Rica where we have a small manufacturing plant and employ 35 workers. They do not wish to leave the country of their birth and which they dearly love. But, like me, they have concluded that America will never be able to recover from an 8-year reign of a truly destructive president.
