PAKISTAN — Two miscreants were killed when a remote control device went off on roadside in the wee hours on Sunday here at Zakhakhel area.

Political administration sources said that two miscreants were planting remote control device with a bridge in Zakhakhel area which went off prematurely while they were planting it.

Bodies of the militants were pierced into pieces by the powerful bomb which was destined to destroy the bridge. It was impossible to identify the militants because their bodies turned into pieces as a result of explosion, official sources said.

Official sources further said that it might be possible that security forces or other officials may be the target of militants who met their fate in the blast because Landi kotal-Torkhum is the main route leading to Afghanistan.

The area was cordoned off by the security forces to net the remaining insurgents in the area.

KABUL (Xinhua) — Two would-be suicide bombers died as their explosive devices went off prematurely in Farah province, 695 km west of Afghan capital Kabul on Monday, the Interior Ministry said in a press release issued here.

“Two suicide bombers who were attempting to target public interests and kill innocent people in the bazaar of Dilaram district died as their suicide vests exploded prematurely at 08:50 a.m. local time today before reaching the target,” the press release added.

There were no casualties in the blast except the bombers, it stressed.

(RIA Novosti) — One militant was killed and another wounded in an attempt to plant a bomb near a shop in the town of Buinaksk in the volatile Russian North Caucasus Republic of Dagestan, the republican interior ministry reported on Sunday.

The bomb went off when two unidentified persons tried to plant an explosive device early on Sunday near a commercial shop in Chaikovsky Street.

“The explosion was equal to 100 grams of TNT. As a result of the explosion, one of the criminals died of wounds on the scene while the other was taken to hospital. Their identities are being established. The shop was slightly damaged. The sum of the damage is being determined,” the ministry said.

Terrorist attacks and shootouts with police have become commonplace in the mostly-Muslim republic of Dagestan.

ISLAMABAD (AP) — Two police officers were indicted Saturday in the 2007 assassination of former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto and will face trial along with five members of the Pakistani Taliban, a state prosecutor said.

The policemen were charged with failing to provide Bhutto with proper security and with destroying evidence, said the prosecutor, Zulfikar Ali. Their indictment triggers a new trial for the Taliban members so that all seven defendants can be tried together, he said.

The Pakistani Taliban have declared a war on the state and often target Pakistani troops, government officials and minorities.

(VOA) — Armed militants launched a suicide attack on a U.S.-run base in northeastern Afghanistan, killing two people.

A provincial police spokesman says four suicide bombers targeted the base of the U.S. Provincial Reconstruction Team in an attack early Saturday morning in Panjshir province.

(AFP) — A Palestinian militant was killed in northern Gaza near the border with Israel on Monday, the DFLP group and medics said, in circumstances disputed by the Israeli army.

Adham Abu Selmiya, spokesperson for Gaza’s emergency services, said a man had been killed by Israeli tank fire but his body was so badly disfigured that medics were not immediately able to identify him.

The Israeli military denied any involvement in the incident, saying the man had been killed when an explosive device he was trying to plant went off prematurely — in what it referred to as a “work accident.”

“The army had nothing to do with it. Initial information indicates two suspects were handling an explosive device which killed one of them,” a spokesperson told AFP.

KABUL, Sept. 24 (Xinhua) — Afghan and NATO-led forces during operations have eliminated 27 insurgents and detained 14 in different parts of the country over the past 24 hours, Afghan Interior Ministry said in a statement on Saturday.

“Afghan National Police (ANP), backed by army and Coalition forces, launched nine joint operations in surrounding areas of Kabul, Parwan, Helmand, Wardak, Ghazni, Uruzgan and Khost province over the past 24 hours,” said the statement.

In another development, two insurgents were killed and another was injured when their bomb exploded prematurely in southern Uruzgan province on Friday night.

“Three insurgent were planting a roadside bomb to attack security forces in Mirabad area of Uruzgan’s provincial capital Tirin Kot but their explosive went off prematurely killing two insurgent on the spot,” a police spokesman in the province, Farid Haeel told Xinhua, adding the injured militant was detained by police.

Afghan and ISAF officials often use the word “insurgents” for referring to Taliban insurgents.

Another four people were wounded in the blast that took place in Maiwand district in the afternoon, the governor’s spokesman, Zalmay Ayubi said.

Police had launched an investigation into the incident. Elsewhere, two policemen were injured in a bomb blast at a recreation park in Mehtralam, the capital of Laghman province, an official said.

LADDAH/KHAR, Sept 5: Two militants were killed when a bomb exploded prematurely in Kalosha area of South Waziristan Agency on the night between Sunday and Monday, sources said.

They said that two militants were planting an explosive device on the road leading to the house of Taliban commander Sharif Wazir in Kalosha area when it went off, killing them on the spot.

Sharif Wazir was a confidant of Taliban commanders Mullah Nazir and Nek Mohammad. He had played a prominent role in eviction of Uzbek militants from South Waziristan Agency in 2008.

Ahsan Umar says the two men were traveling through a residential area in the southern port city of Karachi when the blast occurred Tuesday. It is unclear where the bomber was headed. Umar is one of the top police investigators in Karachi.

ADEN, YEMEN (AFP) — Six suspected al-Qaeda gunmen have been killed in the south Yemen province of Abyan in an air raid by government forces, a local official and a witness said on Tuesday.

The official said the six militants were killed on Monday as Yemeni forces raided several al-Qaeda posts in the area of Arkub, which was overrun Sunday by armed men suspected of belonging to the jihadist network.

MANILA, Philippines (AP) — Authorities say two men were killed when a bomb they were allegedly carrying exploded prematurely along a highway in the restive southern Philippines.

No motive has been established, but Muslim rebels and criminal syndicates operate in the region.

Police chief Chino Mamburam in Kidapawan city says the homemade explosive went off early Friday, killing the suspected bomber instantly. He says investigators managed to talk to his companion before he died in a hospital.

(JPost) — Hezbollah security forces prevented Lebanese police from investigating the scene of an explosion Friday overnight which rocked Hezbollah’s headquarters in a south Beirut suburb, DPA reported Saturday.

The blast, which took place inside an apartment on the tenth floor of a building in the the Roueiss neighborhood, killed at least one person and injured another, DPA said.

Immediately after the explosion, the area was blocked off by Hezbollah security forces who. A Lebanese security source told DPA that Hezbollah forces fired into the air to disperse curious crowds who gathered at the site.

The circumstances behind the blast were unclear, but DPA cited some Lebanese newspapers as saying that a small bomb or hand grenade could have been the cause of the blast.

Lebanese website Lebanon Files also reported that Samir Kuntar, a terrorist previously jailed in Israel, was injured in the explosion. The report could not be confirmed, however it is believed that several Hezbollah members live in the Roueiss neighborhood.

(Telegraph) — An al-Qaeda militant has been killed together with his two children when a car bomb he was making at his home exploded near the northern Iraq city of Kirkuk, police said.

“An al-Qaeda terrorist, Mohammed Nussayef Jasim al-Hamdani, was killed while trying to fit a bomb inside a vehicle at his home,” a police official in Kirkuk said today.

“His two children, aged 10 and 11, also were killed, part of his house was destroyed, and 20 of his neighbours were wounded,” he added, saying the incident occurred before midnight yesterday west of Kirkuk city.

Hamdani had been in detention on suspicion of terrorism, but was recently released due to “insufficient evidence against him,” the official said.

He asked not to be named because he is not authorised to speak to the media.

On Sunday, an anti-terrorism official said that Iraqi security forces had smashed an al-Qaeda network allegedly responsible for more than 100 killings in Baghdad.
